My Instrument/Equipment:
I currently play a 5801 K Hans Hoyer Double Horn. It's former owner was Martin Hackleman (most notably of the Canadian Brass and Empire Brass). I use a Hausotte Straight Mute. It is a fabulous mute. Contact Dave Weiner at Brass Arts Unlimited in Baltimore (www.brassarts.com) to pick one up.

Megan Helvering has been a music enthusiast since a very early age. She received her Bachelor of Music
degree in Music Education at Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska, where she studied with Dr. Daniel
Schmidt. She then attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she studied with Greg Helseth
and Ross Snyder and received a Master of Music Degree in Horn Performance. In addition, she has also
completed a Master of Arts degree in Arts Administration from the University of Missouri at Kansas City,
where she also studied horn with Elizabeth Freimuth.
While she still maintains an active performing schedule, Megan is most passionate about the
cultivation and success of non-profit arts organizations. Her degrees, with a diverse background
in arts administration, music education, and music performance, give her a unique perspective into
the needs and challenges of arts organizations in the 21st century. Her training is specifically
geared toward fundraising and development. Currently, Megan works as a development
consultant for SingOmaha, a community-based choral arts organization in Omaha, NE.
Megan has enjoyed performing in many ensembles throughout the years including: the Hastings
Symphony Orchestra, Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra, Lincoln Symphony Orchestra,
UMKC Wind Symphony, UMKC Orchestra, the Hastings College Brass Quintet,
UMKC Woodwind Quintet, the Great Plains Brass Quintet. Megan currently performs with
the Sunflower Brass and the Kansas City Wind Symphony.
Megan's hobbies include playing with her dog Cassie, reading, walking (especially on nature
trails), and singing. She is married to the Sunflower Brass music director and composer R.
